Jim Barty, Life Drawing in France

Jim Barty is a regular attendee of life drawing classes in Esperaza, Aude.

"My intention when I go each Monday morning is not about making art but just to prove to myself that I can see the model.  The proof is the drawing I produce.  This is an artist’s exercise, equivalent to an athlete going to the gym.  For everyone the more we talk to ourselves, the less we can see the world. Artists are no more immune to this chatter than anyone else.  But artists need to be able to see the world.

So, for me, an opportunity to exercise and prove the act of seeing on a regular basis is critically important."
